Behind The Burning Sun was created by independent researcher and writer Key Wright.

After following the scandal closely as it was unfolding in real time, Wright became fascinated with the many facets of the case. Wright continued researching the scandal even after it had concluded, dedicating seven years of on and off time to exhuming news articles, court documents, YouTube videos, and conducting personal interviews with K-Pop fans to develop a comprehensive understanding of the case.

Wright has also dedicated countless hours of their personal time to researching relevant topics such as Korean law, feminism, victim advocacy, and moral philosophy (which they minored in during their college year). In 2023, Wright began properly archiving the information they discovered, creating timelines and documents to record every bit of crucial information they could find relating to the scandal.

in 2025, Wright began working on their nonfiction book, Behind The Burning Sun—which would later become the name for this archival website project. In 2026, Wright completed the second draft of their book, which contains a detailed recount of the Burning Sun timeline, deep analysis of Seungri’s participation in the scandal, and educational chapters explaining the nuances of molka laws, victim cultures, and fan reception to the scandal.

The Burning Sun Archive exists as an independent research project dedicated to preserving information, encouraging critical thinking, and providing readers with access to sources that are often scattered across years of reporting and legal proceedings. While no archive can claim to be perfectly complete, the goal of this project is to document the case as thoroughly and accurately as possible while honoring the experiences of those whose lives were affected by the scandal.

Through this work, Wright hopes to contribute to a deeper public understanding of the Burning Sun case and the broader social issues it exposed.
